I'm looking for a children's book cover designer and illustrator to work with me on my latest children's book about disability. It's a magical story about strength beyond limits, aimed at children aged 9–12, with strong themes of inclusion, empowerment, and acceptance.
This is my first time self-formatting and self-publishing, so I'd appreciate a designer who can be patient, collaborative, and supportive throughout the process.
What I need:
-
Front and back cover designs for both print and ebook formats.
-
Print trim size is set at 5.5 x 8.5 inches (using Atticus.io).
-
The layout margins are 0.625" (inside) and 0.5" (outside), with 0.25" indents.
-
The manuscript is 41 pages long with a word count just over 5,000.
-
If you also offer internal illustrations, I'm open to exploring black-and-white illustrations – one per chapter might work well.
The book will be published this year, ideally late summer or early autumn.
A bit about me:
I'm a disabled writer, author, and disability advocate living with cerebral palsy and a severe speech impediment. My work challenges stereotypes and celebrates difference. I write with honesty, humour, and heart, and I want this cover to reflect that.
Budget
Negotiable depending on experience and what's offered. I want to pay fairly for quality work.
Deadline
Looking to commission by late May 2025. Final cover by early August at the latest.
