Showcasing Wales’ dramatic and diverse landscape and the vibrant music scene embedded within it, Voices of Wales is an innovative short film experience with spine tingling performances from Wales’ emerging musical talents. From the mountains of Snowdonia to the inner-city clubs of Cardiff, audiences will enjoy a gloriously immersive journey and learn what is it to be an artist in Wales today.

The Voices of Wales film will be available for all to enjoy for free within a projection dome at Wales Millennium Centre from 2 to 4 May 2019. All six tracks were specially recorded and mixed in three-dimensional 360º film and ambisonic sound, capturing the magic of the moment inside six hemispherical lenses which transports viewers to the very centre of the virtual gig.

Throughout the summer and autumn of 2018, cameras followed the hottest talent emerging from Wales; from the Green Man Festival to the Welsh music stronghold of Clwb Ifor Bach. Discover the badass Welsh girl band, Adwaith, modern folk singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist The Gentle Good; Astroid Boys’ high energy fusion; Afro Cluster’s club-jazz-rap synthesis, the Brythoniaid male voice choir, and the unique electronic sounds of Marged.

The project has been funded via the Welsh Government’s Tourism Product Innovation Fund which aims to encourage new innovative product ideas working in partnership which will have a greater impact and attract more visitors. Contributing to Visit Wales’ Year of Discovery 2019, Voices of Wales shares the vision to invite people to discover Wales afresh, and in doing so to have discovered something new and special about themselves, something that holds in the memory and lingers in the soul.

The film will be available for everyone to view online, to watch via Wales Millennium Centre’s YouTube and Facebook channels from 3 May 2019. For the best viewing experience, we recommend wearing a VR headset which is advised for people aged 12 and over.

Wales Millennium Centre’s Artistic Director, Graeme Farrow, said:

Voice is at the heart of everything we do at WMC and this film reflects our mission to provide an accessible platform for diverse and contemporary musical voices from across Wales. Using digital media, our aim is to showcase Welsh talent and the beauty of our nation to the world.
