With over twenty headline acts scheduled to perform in Cardiff this summer, alongside packed listings at the city’s independent venues and Cardiff City Music Festival happening in the autumn, 2024 might just be Cardiff’s biggest year for music yet.
To celebrate we’ll be profiling some of the stories from this blockbuster year for live performances in the city; speaking to the fans, the bands and the behind-the-scenes talent about what makes Cardiff such a special place for live music.
For our latest feature, we speak to Paramore superfan Tam about seeing her favourite artist perform in Cardiff!
Tam, when did you become such a big fan of Paramore?
I, like many others instantly became a fan after hearing ‘Misery Business’ on Kerrang! I was around 12 years old, and went on a deep dive through YouTube watching all of their music videos. I can remember having the biggest crush on Haley Williams (who didn’t), and being in awe of her musicianship.
How many Paramore concerts have you been to?
Unfortunately, none! Given that they are an American band, I’ve had few opportunities to see them live.
What’s so special about a Paramore show?
From the live videos online, it seems like Haley is what’s special about Paramore. They have gone through a few rotations of band members but one thing has always stayed constant – their front woman.
What’s different about seeing Paramore here in Cardiff?
I can imagine the Welsh give it that little bit more at gigs. Its not often that big bands come down to the Diff, so when they do, you know its going to be a party!
What would you say to someone who’s thinking about going to the show?
Switch your phone off. Get stuck in with the crowd. Jump in the mosh. Sing. Scream. Lose your voice. Buy some merch. And get home safe.
